Nothing more inconvenient than the troubles of having clogged drains; may it be with the sink, tub, or toilet. Ever had a good family dinner only to be ruined by having to unclog sink before you even start to do the dishes? Or have you ever got your tummy upset and your toilet threatens you of an overflowing, muck-filled toilet bowl? Or have you ever longed for a wine night in your bathtub but your tub just won’t drain? Again, clogged drains are just pure inconvenience and you shouldn’t wait for this to happen before you start taking precautions on your pipes.
There are a lot of ways to prevent blocked drains, blocked toilet or clogged sink so you don’t have to call an emergency plumbing services. For your toilets, it’s wise to NOT FLUSH anything solid that isn’t tissue—sanitary napkins, wet wipes, diapers, cotton balls, paper towels, and cigarette butts. For your sinks, make sure to not get a lot of food and grease going down your sinks. Your tubs won’t get clogged if you don’t let hair stuck in the drain. Basically, just always be careful of what you put in your drains. It is better for you to maintain these measures than always getting your plumbers running in your homes.
Getting food, oil, or hair stuck in the drain is sometimes just inevitable. However, you can keep them from clogging the drains. Try these methods after every use of your sinks, toilets, and tubs:
Always throw all the hair that clumped on the drain to prevent them from slipping through, causing much more clogging in the pipes. Just pick up the clump and throw them straight to the trash; how hard can that be?
Run hot water through the drain after every use. This is most applicable for sinks, especially when used oil got in the drain. Hot water can keep the oil running straight to drainage rather than building up in the surfaces of your pipes.
Get a handful of baking soda and throw it into the drain, pouring boiling water right after. Baking soda’s chemical reaction to boiling water is said to be a good cleaning agent that doesn’t only clean but also removes foul odors.
Pour a cup of vinegar in the kitchen drain or your bathroom sink and leave it for 30 mins before following it with hot water. Vinegar contains acetic acid that is an excellent organic solvent that helps remove organic buildup of mucks and grimes and slimes in your pipes. You can also use the mixture of baking soda and vinegar.
