What is the difference between council stormwater responsibilities and homeowner responsibilities?
As a homeowner, you are generally responsible for all stormwater infrastructure within your property boundary: gutters, downpipes, internal surface drains, stormwater pits and the pipes that run to your connection point on the council system. The council is responsible for the reticulated stormwater network in the street and the kerb side of the connection point. Easement drains running through multiple properties can be more complex, with shared maintenance obligations in some cases. Can damaged underground stormwater pipes be repaired without excavating my garden?
