Gas heating earns its keep in a Sydney winter: it is cheaper to run than electric resistance heating, warms a room fast, and many systems keep working when the power goes out. When it plays up, you want a licensed gas fitter on it, not a guess.

EKORP installs, services and repairs every type of gas heating found in a Sydney home: ducted systems, gas log fires, hydronic heating and space heaters. Requirements can vary by property and authority. We will help you confirm what applies before work begins.

Gas heating systems we install and service

Whole-home ducted heating, a single gas log fire, or something in between: there is a system for every home size and layout, and our gas fitters have worked on all of them. Ducted systems are installed with proper zoning and sealed, pressure-tested ductwork. Log fires connect to the existing gas line with the flue fitted to manufacturer spec. Hydronic systems run hot water through radiators or underfloor pipes for even, quiet warmth.

Modern ducted gas systems run at around 85 to 96% efficiency, and gas is generally 30 to 40% cheaper to run than electric resistance heating, depending on your tariffs. Before you commit, ask us for a rough running cost comparison for your home size and system type.

  • Ducted gas heating with zoning
  • Gas space heaters, flued and unflued
  • Gas log fires
  • Hydronic heating systems
  • Gas pool and spa heaters

Gas heater repairs and annual servicing

Pilot light out? Thermostat playing up? We carry common parts on the van and sort most faults in a single visit, across ducted systems, space heaters and gas log fires from all major brands. If the unit is under 15 years old and the heat exchanger is intact, a repair is usually the right call, and we assess the unit before quoting so the recommendation is straight.

Annual servicing is the standard, ideally before winter kicks in: burners cleaned, gas pressure checked, safety controls inspected, flue draw and carbon monoxide levels tested. Skipped services sit behind most preventable gas heater faults.

Warning signs your gas heater needs attention

A healthy gas flame burns blue. Yellow or orange flames mean incomplete combustion, which can produce carbon monoxide: get it checked straight away. And if there is visible rust or cracking on the unit or flue, do not run the system until a gas fitter has looked at it.

  • Yellow or orange flames instead of blue
  • Banging or whistling from the unit
  • Gas bills creeping up without extra use
  • Cold spots or temperatures that drift
  • Short cycling: on and off in quick bursts

What gas heating work costs and how long it takes

You get a written quote before we start, and the price we quote is what you pay unless you ask for extra work during the visit. We inspect the job and confirm the price before work begins. As a guide on time, a gas space heater replacement is usually half a day, and a full ducted installation with furnace, gas line and ductwork takes one to two days depending on the home.

Questions

Common questions about gas heating.

Here are clear answers to common questions. Call us if you need help with something else.

Is EKORP Plumbing licensed and insured for gas plumbing work?

Yes. All gas work is carried out by licensed gasfitters holding current NSW gas licences. NSW Plumbing Lic 322223C is verifiable through NSW Fair Trading. Requirements can vary by property and authority. We will help you confirm what applies before work begins.

How do I know if I have a gas leak?

Gas suppliers add a chemical odorant that produces a distinct rotten egg or sulphur smell. You may also hear a faint hissing near a pipe joint, appliance connection, or meter. Dead or discoloured vegetation near an underground gas line can indicate a slow ground-level leak. If you notice any of these signs, leave the property immediately, avoid all switches and open flames, and call us from a safe distance. Contact your gas provider as well.

Is a gas bayonet safe if the hose is pulled out accidentally?

Yes, by design. The automatic shut-off valve inside a correctly installed bayonet closes the moment the hose plug is removed. No gas escapes from the wall fitting itself. The safety relies on the fitting being in good condition, though. A bayonet that has been knocked, damaged, or installed incorrectly may not seal reliably. Signs a bayonet needs replacing or testing: it feels loose in the socket, there is a faint gas smell near it when nothing is connected, or the appliance hose does not lock in firmly. Stop using the point and call a licensed gasfitter.

Do I need a compliance certificate for a gas bayonet fitting in NSW?

Yes. Under the NSW Plumbing and Drainage Act 2011, a certificate of compliance is required for all gas installation work, including a single bayonet point. Requirements can vary by property and authority. We will help you confirm what applies before work begins. File it with your property papers. Your insurer and future conveyancer may ask for it.
