What demolition uncovers in older kitchens

Four steps, sequenced with your other trades. It starts with a site visit and an itemised quote covering pipe routing, waste relocation, gas lines and fixture positions. Rough-in happens before cabinetry or tiling. Fit-off happens after the build, when we connect and commission every fixture and appliance. Then everything is pressure-tested, leak-checked and certified to NSW standards, with gas compliance certificates and Sydney Water permits provided wherever required.

Can I install a gas cooktop myself in NSW?
No. Under NSW law, carrying out gas installation work without a current gasfitting licence is an offence. This applies to homeowners as well as unlicensed tradespeople. The prohibition covers connecting the appliance, replacing the flexible hose, and adjusting the regulator. The one thing a homeowner can legally do is light the appliance after a licensed gasfitter has connected it and issued the compliance certificate. Insurance claims related to unlicensed gas work are routinely declined.
How long does gas cooktop installation take?
A straight swap at an existing gas point takes one to one and a half hours. That covers disconnecting the old appliance, connecting the new one, performing a pressure and leak test, and issuing the compliance certificate. A job requiring a new pipe run will take two to four hours depending on the run length and access. Concealed pipework in a finished kitchen takes longer than surface-mounted runs in a laundry or outdoor area.
How much does a mixer tap cost to replace in Sydney?
