Georges River kitchen renovations come with history attached. Federation and post-war homes across Mortdale, Oatley and Hurstville hide pipework that predates every appliance you're about to install, and a tight older kitchen layout leaves no room for plumbing guesswork.

EKORP handles heritage pipe retrofits as part of the renovation itself: rough-in for sinks and dishwashers, gas cooktop and oven connections, and waste and water relocation for island benches, all coordinated with your cabinetmaker so the sequencing holds together.

Old pipes are the local specialty

Pre-1980s homes around Hurstville Grove, Lugarno and the surrounding suburbs regularly turn up galvanised steel or earthenware pipe once demolition starts. We assess what's exposed and replace the failing sections with copper or PEX before the walls are closed, because that is the one moment in the life of the kitchen when the fix is cheap.

New fixtures show old weaknesses fast: a filtered water tap or island bench connection will find every undersized supply line in the house. We test pressure at rough-in and upgrade what can't keep up, and we check the hot water unit can carry any added demand before the job is signed off.

The full scope, island benches included

Moving a sink into an island bench means rerouting waste and water under the floor, and it has to be planned with the cabinetmaker before anyone starts. We lock the layout in early, complete rough-in before cabinetry, return for fit-off, then pressure-test, leak-check and certify everything to NSW standards. Requirements can vary by property and authority. We will help you confirm what applies before work begins.

Coverage runs across the whole Georges River area: Hurstville, Mortdale, Oatley, Blakehurst, Lugarno, Peakhurst, Connells Point, Kyle Bay, Carss Park, South Hurstville and Peakhurst Heights.

Questions

Common questions about kitchen renovations.

Here are clear answers to common questions. Call us if you need help with something else.

How do I know if my mixer tap needs replacing or just a new washer?

A leaking mixer that drips from the spout is often caused by a worn cartridge, which can sometimes be replaced without changing the whole tap. If the tap body is cracked, corroded at the base, leaking from the body rather than the spout, or simply outdated in a renovation context, full replacement makes more sense. A plumber can diagnose this quickly during a service visit.

What is the difference between a gas bayonet fitting and a hard-piped connection?

A gas bayonet is a push-and-twist quick-release fitting, usually installed at wall or bench height, that lets a flexible appliance hose be connected and disconnected without tools. Hard-piped connections use fixed copper or steel pipe run directly to the appliance location, typically with a flexible hose as the final link. Cooktops in Australian kitchens are almost always connected via a flexible hose to either a bayonet or a fixed outlet. The type already in your kitchen will shape the connection method your gasfitter uses.

What should I ask before booking a gas bayonet installation?

Before booking any gasfitter in the southern Sydney area, ask: Are you currently licensed with NSW Fair Trading for gasfitting work? Will you provide a fixed-price written quote before starting? Does the quote include the compliance certificate? Will you pressure-test the line after installation? Can you do an indoor and an outdoor bayonet in one visit to keep call-out costs down? A gasfitter who hesitates on any of those questions is worth reconsidering.

Can a dripping mixer cause water damage?

A slow drip from a mixer spout does not typically cause structural water damage unless the water is pooling in a concealed space. However, a leak at the base of the tap body or at the flexible hose connections under the sink can saturate the cabinet floor and cause swelling, mould, and eventually subfloor damage if left unattended. For any leak that you cannot see the source of, a water leak detection service is worth booking to locate the source before it causes structural harm.
